About Us
David Schmal
David was born the first of two kids and was raised in Mesa (Phoenix-Metro), Arizona for the first ten years of his life by two wonderful parents, Ray Schmal and Donna Adams. When they got divorced David wound up with two more wonderful parents, Bev Schmal and Don Adams (making a grand total of four). Growing up he was pressured to enjoy the natural world by his parents, but grew to love it of his own accord.
When he was sixteen he got his first “official” job in food production at Taco Bell. He somehow managed to stay there for 3 ½ years and left as a shift manager. During this time he discovered soap-making and other crafts of all kinds.
After Taco Bell he decided to go to work for a company called Guthrie Mainstream Services as a provider for special needs kids, teens, and adults. The summer of 2009 found him visiting his step-mom (Bev) in beautiful Warwick, Rhode Island. She introduced him to Dr. Tim, and within a month he found himself relocating to Warwick in order to help open Nature’s Lathertm.
In his spare time you would likely find David out skating the streets, or City Park. Other activities he enjoys include: stair climbing, going to the gym, ultimate frisbee, running, computers and web design, drawing, painting, sketching, long walks, surfing, riding motorcycles, camping, and in general just interacting with the natural world. A new hobby is blogging! He is currently single and has hopes of enjoying another 10 or so years of bachelorhood (before falling hard for “Mrs. Right”).
As of July 16, he will be back in Mesa, Arizona for an unspecified amount of time, in order to pursue business development opportunities that have recently arisen.
